Description of the project

A masterplan for the development of inland container barge transport from Maasvlakte 2 (the latest expansion of the Port of Rotterdam) to the Dutch, French and German hinterland up to the year 2035.

This project is characterized by a strategic hinterland transport system in which a modal shift is envisaged from road to rail and in particular IWT on the Rhine and Meuse rivers system. Maasvlakte 2 terminals include facilities for efficient handling of river barges. New IWT terminals including logistics areas are required along the waterways in the hinterland to enable an efficient IWT system. PCR has been involved in such plans for inland terminals in Waalwijk, Wanssum and Venlo.
