Project Description

  • Project name: Dry bulk terminal expansion
  • Project location: Rotterdam, The Netherlands
  • Name of client: European Bulk Services.
  • Period: 2010 – 2012.

Description of the project

European Bulk Services (EBS) operates a dry bulk terminal. The terminal is  for intermediate storage of mineral bulk, agri bulk and biomass products. The terminal has a total annual throughput of approximately 8 million tons, and a total land area of 30 hectares.

An additional 5 hectares plot of land had to be developed.  The dry bulk terminal expansion is required to have a multi-purpose stacking area, suitable for maneuvering with heavy equipment. The land was in a very swampy condition. In addition the land consisted partly of severely polluted soil. After an extensive mandatory soil decontamination process, the area was developed into an open storage facility with 300.000 tons capacity. The dry bulk terminal expansion consisted of a heavy duty pavement using state-of-the-art-soil concrete technique. Also a bi-directional belt conveyor with fully automated stacker, data network, firefighting facilities, sewerage etc. are part of the project.
